SBR Season UpdateUpdated Tuesday April 4, 2017 by Chris Knudsen.
April 15th will conclude our pre-league portion of the season and we will begin league play on Tuesday, April, 18. We do understand that April 15th is part of Easter weekend and that some of you may not be able to play on this weekend, but with the rainouts and us missing the entire week of April 10 - 13 due to the Boras Classic Tournament being played at McAuliffe during that week, it's difficult to give up an entire day of game play. Also, there is a very high likelyhood that this Saturday will also get rained out with a big storm forcast for Friday and finishing up sometime on Saturday.
As discussed in our news item at the beginning of the season, we appreciate your patience with the scheduling as we do understand that it can make your personal schedules a little more difficult to plan. However, one of our top goals as a league, because of field availability and especially with this being a particularly rainy year, is that we have minimal game cancellations. Many of our volunteers and coaches also have other coaching obligations with local colleges and high schools, and we have to work around these conflicts, especially with 22 teams, so we try to coordinate schedules as best we can to eliminate any cancellations. Unfortunately, this also means that sometimes you get late notifications of changes, and we apologize for this. Our task is a lot different from a 6-8 team Little League that you may have come from.
For planning purposes, we will have the following periods off because of holidays or other events at McAuliffe; May 17-24 for the high school CIF tournament, Memorial Day Weekend, and Father's Day weekend. Other than those, you can typically plan on games either Tuesday, Thursday, or Saturday. The league will wrap up with our playoff tournament in the 2nd and 3rd weeks of June, with All Stars in late June and early July. Hope this helps with your scheduling needs.
We'd also like to thank you all for your support of the SBR snack bar at McAuliffe. All proceeds raised help to pay for the umpires and field costs so that we can keep league fees reasonable. We try to do our best at keeping the prices affordable and the food good.
Hope you all have a great week!
